Estimate roof material cost — your price, your numbers.

Multiply your roof squares by your own price per square. No fabricated regional pricing — you supply the rate.

Roof Cost Estimator

This is one of six interlinked roofing calculators. For a complete material list across a multi-plane roof, use the full roofing material calculator.

The roof cost calculator multiplies your roofing squares by a price per square that you supply. We never invent prices — you enter the figure your supplier or contractor quotes.

How to use this calculator

Squares
Your roof area in roofing squares. Get it from the area or full calculator.
Price per square ($)
The cost of one roofing square of your chosen material, as quoted to you. This is your number, not ours.

How we calculate it

Cost = squares × price per square. That's the whole formula — it's deliberately simple and transparent.

We do not ship default or estimated prices. Roofing prices vary enormously by material, region, and supplier, so a fabricated figure would be misleading. The calculator only multiplies the price you enter.

The result is material cost at the square level. It doesn't include labor, tear-off, permits, or markup — add those separately when building a full quote.

A worked example

A 20-square roof, with your supplier quoting $350 per square for architectural shingles.

  1. Squares = 20.
  2. Price per square = $350 (your quoted figure).
  3. Cost = 20 × 350 = $7,000.

At $350 per square, a 20-square roof is $7,000 in shingle material — before underlayment, accessories, labor, and markup.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't you show typical prices?

Because honest pricing is local and material-specific. A national average would mislead more than it helps, so we only use the price you supply.

Does this include labor?

No. It's material cost per square only. Labor, tear-off, disposal, and markup are separate line items in a real quote.
